Pop-Up Markets and Open Studios

MinorOak celebrates its history as a 1930s market building with occasional Saturday pop-ups, often coordinating with other Sneinton Market Avenues tenants or with Pagan Pride. MinorOak’s markets always concentrate on local makers, vintage, upcycling, and direct trade.

MinorOak has hosted dozens of pop-up markets, including Pagan markets for Samhain, Beltane, and Yule, Christmas markets, LARP (Live Action Role Play) markets, and privately managed market events.

Keep scrolling down for a list of what to send if you want to take part as a trader; it’s at the bottom of the page. But first, the upcoming markets…

Trader Information

Types of Markets:

  • Pop-up Open Studios are inside MinorOak and feature 2-4 artists per day
  • Mini-Markets are inside and next to our unit and usually have 12-16 traders.
  • Avenues Markets are avenues-wide and usually have 35-50 traders plus other entertainment and events going on at the same time. MinorOak’s Christmas Market, now the Yuletide Night Market, used to be a mini-market and is now an Avenues Market.
  • Large Markets take place in Sneinton Market Avenues AND Sneinton Market Square and usually have 90 or more traders. Other entertainment and events will be going on at the same time. The Samhain and Beltane Markets used to be Avenues markets (pre-Samhain 2024) and are now large markets.

All traders are subject to review and lately, all markets have had to be curated due to high demand. We do not have hard and fast rules except:

  1. All outdoor traders must have £5 million in Public Liability Insurance (this is a City Council requirement)
  2. We ask that you not sell anything that violates copyright.
  3. Food traders are subject to additional City Council requirements.
  4. Anyone selling food, drinks, or skincare products should have ingrediant lists available to buyers.

Curation for markets (general – individual markets may vary):

  • Traders selling things they made themselves are preferred
  • Goods that are made in the UK are preferred
  • We are open to handmade goods from abroad (fair or direct trade)
  • If you are selling things like crystals or fabric, know your supply chain and have that information available to buyers
  • Mass produced goods from abroad are discouraged, especially as a sole focus
  • Originality is good
  • Vintage/reuse, upcycling and recycling are good
  • We welcome booksellers who respect copyright; small publishers especially welcomed
  • We also welcome musicians, artists, and designers who self-publish (you can bring prints, goods, and recordings featuring your original work)

If you’re trading from a gazebo or undercroft at an Avenues or Large Market, you can expect:

  • Help placing or locating your pitch – we are very precise with our site plans
  • Access to public loos
  • Plenty of affordable places to buy food and drinks within a 2-minute walk
  • An assigned indoor emergency withdrawal point in case of terrible weather
  • No onsite parking (but there’s cheap parking nearby and we’ll make recommendations)
  • What we provide:
    • We provide undercroft traders with a 6′-0″ x 2′-0″ table and a chair
    • Gazebo traders and pitches-on-wheels are responsible for their own pitch, tables, chairs, etc.

If you’re inside or next to MinorOak, you can expect:

  • Table and chair will be provided
  • Free coffee, tea and snacks
  • Toilets inside, including one that is wheelchair accessible
  • The indoor market space has:
    • infrared heaters
    • wheelchair accessibility
    • Easy access to electrical from all pitches
    • Places to hang things, if you let us know in advance
    • Lockable rooms where you can keep extra items, handbags, etc.
    • Warning: the inside space can be a bit crowded for markets that are booked up. Plan for your pitch size.
