2026 Nottingham Locavore Market

Hi!

MinorOak, Sneinton Market tenant and the site organiser for the Nottingham Pagan Markets, is organising something new (or old?) for Nottingham: a market that focuses on locally produced food!

We’re looking for local food from farms and food businesses that are relatively near-by: in Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, Yorkshire, and Rutland. In another close-by county? That’s fine. We’d love to have a fish monger or two and we’re nowhere near the sea!

Why are we doing this? We are concerned about climate change, and of course we’re always looking for fresh, healthy, tasty things to eat too. A locavore market would have food that is fresh and high quality AND has fewer food miles. There is something really cool about connecting with local food producers when you live in a city surrounded by farmland, but your supermarkets and the local farms are part of a global logistics network. We’d like to connect directly, and we’re hoping some farmers feel the same way!

We’d like to start the Locavore Markets in May, 2026.

A good mix

We’re aiming for around half the market to be unprocessed or minimally processed locally grown ingrediants: fruits, vegetables, herbs, meat, fish, nuts, seeds, mushrooms, etc.

The other half of the market would hopefully be other local food businesses and just a few craft traders: bakers, hand-canned goods, preserves, sauces, prepared food, minimally processed soaps and bath products, perhaps hand-made utensils or table settings – things that are re-buyable and/or that have a link to home dining.

We have both the Nottingham mill coop and Breadmill bakery onsite, so we don’t need that much more in the way of baked goods, but bakers are still welcome to apply, especially if you have a different focus.

Our crazy old market

Have you heard about or visited Sneinton Market Avenues? It’s a 1930s market that has been redeveloped into a home for independant creative businesses. Some of us have been here for as long as 10 years but we are on short term leases, so Sneinton Market is always evolving.

Undercrofts with trader pitches

Sneinton Market is full of unique, vibrant independant businesses and studios. Our resident food businesses include a microbrewery, a bean-to-bar chocolate maker, and an award-winning baker who uses locally milled flour. We even have a gin distillery!

You can trade out of a vehicle, a trailer, or a gazebo, and we’ll also have undercroft pitches available, with a six foot table and chair under a roof but open to the sides (so, protected from rain).

Please fill out the form below if you’re interested. We’re keeping pitch prices super-low for this pilot – we don’t want cost to be an object! Dee should be in touch within a few days.

There is no obligation in filling out this form – the event is not yet pinned down. To sign up for our traders’ mailing list so you’ll hear about all our events, go here and be sure to check “Artists and makers list: join our events.” If you have any questions or comments, email Dee, MinorOak’s owner.
