Nottingham’s Sneinton Market

Sneinton Market, just east of Nottingham’s city centre, had been a place for temporary market stalls since the 1850s, with traders offering food, locally produced goods and wholesale products for sale. In 1938, four rows of permanent market buildings were constructed and they were in continuous use until the early 2010s. By that time, the market buildings and the market itself were run down and barely serviceable, and the traders were fed up.

Nottingham’s city council renovated the market buildings with EU funds, and the newly redeveloped Sneinton Market is now offering units for lease, concentrating on creative businesses and internet startups. Minor Oak has landed in a beautiful unit on Gedling Street, easily accessible from Hockley, a lively and interesting city centre neighbourhood full of great restaurants, pubs and independent businesses.

Beauty and Accessibility

Sneinton Market’s Unit 6 is a fantastic space. If you’ve seen some of the pictures, you know why. With full-height windows lining two of the four walls and skylights along the full length of the unit, it is flooded with natural light. I think it’s going to be a beautiful and inspiring place to work. I can hardly wait to start. Once you see it, I think you’ll feel the same way.

The location is in the Creative Quarter, easily accessible from Hockley’s Goose Gate, just a block from the semi-pedestrianised area. Sneinton Market is right across the street from the Motorpoint Arena and National Ice Centre, and that means there’s usually plentiful and relatively inexpensive parking available on weekdays. Buses from every part of Nottingham stop within a 10 minute walk. The train station is a 15 minute walk, and the tram is only a few blocks away.

As Minor Oak’s owner/operator, I love the space, I love the location, and I am honoured to be part of the Sneinton Market’s exciting transformation.
